Teknaf as hub of Yaba trading in recent time

The Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) seized with a large number of Yaba (methamphetamine) tablets along the Bangladesh-Burma border under the Teknaf municipal areas recently, Jamal Uddin, a local trader from Teknaf.
The Teknaf is a border town and last point of Bangladesh which situated on the Naf River and opposite side of Maungdaw township of Myanmar which was recently called hub of Yaba, Jamal more added.

BGB received information in the morning of April 28, 2017 that a large consignment of Yaba coming from Burma to Bangladesh. Immediately, BGB went to said area and conducted operation where they seized 121,0000 Yaba pills inside four sacks dumped at a betel leaf farm at Kochubonia area under Teknaf, said Teknaf-based BGB Battalion’s Commander Lt Col Abuzar Al Zahid.

However, three to four smugglers fled from the spot sensing BGB’s presence. The seized Yaba tablets was kept at BGB headquarters in Teknaf, Lt. Col. Zahid said.

Besides, police personnel of Teknaf police station received information on same day at around 6:00 pm and went Katabunia area and seized 150,000 Yaba tablets after being conducted operation. But, no body was arrested by the police, Police-in-charge (OC) Mohammed Mahin Uddin Khan from Teknaf police station said.

On April 15, 2017, Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 270,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from Nayapara village in Teknaf Upazila, where BGB personnel challenged a group of people who were roaming in the area around 5:30 am. But, they, managed to flee the scene leaving behind two bags, containing the Yaba tablets, Lt Col Abu Jar Al Zahid, commanding officer of BGB-2, said

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested three alleged Yaba traders of Burma in separate drives, including one with bullet wounds, and recovered 650,000 pieces of Yaba in Teknaf upazila on April 17, 2017, at around 5:15 am, BGB official said.

Another BGB patrol team seized 500,000 pieces of Yaba from Jaliar Char in the Naf River early in the morning on April 17, 2017, the sources added.

Thousands and thousands of Yaba tablets have been smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma by a group of syndicates but the Burmese authorities don’t pay attention to stop smuggling Yaba tablets from Burma side. The concerned authorities of Burma also involve in the Yaba smuggling, said an aide of Border Guard Police (BGP).

However, the government of Bangladesh have been trying to stop smuggling Yaba tablets, but they are unable to control Yaba smugglers. So, the Yaba smuggling are being increased day by day in Bangladesh-Burma border, a local village member from Teknaf said.
