Burmese army’s gang-raped and arbitrary arrest in Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Burmese army gang-raped three Rohingya women and arbitrarily arrested over 40 villagers from northern Maungdaw on November 18, said Zalal from Nga Sa Kyu village.

“They entered our homes saying they would need to search and investigate. When they didn’t find any man present in homes, they raped the women. I do not want to mention their names who had been raped by army,” said Shona Banu from Kyet Yoe Pyin village.

“The army asks us to stay at home peacefully; and not to run away. But when we do that, they simply arrest us or kill when we try to escape the arbitrary arrests, a villager Sultan said from Nga Sa Kyu village.

On this relating situation, the army arrests any Rohingya man whether they have connections or not with the alleged militants in the region. After that, they declare these villagers as militants through the state media as soon as possible, an intellectual from Maundaw north said on condition of anonymity.

According to villagers, hundreds of the innocent villagers have been killed, many women have been raped, man villagers have been arrested and many villages have completely been destroyed since October 9, in the name of ‘Clearance Operation.’

These exterminations, mass arrests and rapes are now leading to flee Rohingya people   to Bangladesh.
