BGP arrests three Bangladeshi fishermen from the Naff River

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Border Guard Police of Burma (BGP) arrested three Bangladeshi fishermen from the Naff River on November 2, while fishing there, Korim, a fisherman from Teknaf said.
The arrestees have been identified as— Hamid Hossain (40), son of Kobir Ahmed, Kalaya (32), son of Mohamed Ismail and Noor Hossain (45), son of Shikandar, of Chawdari Para of Teknaf union under the Cox’s Bazar district, Korim more added.

According to fishermen, the said fishermen along with other fishing boats went to the Naff River for fishing on that day at around 7:00 pm.  Suddenly, a BGP patrol boat came to the spot and seized one boat and however, some other fishing boats have managed to escape.

The fishermen said that they were fishing in Bangladesh territorial waters, but from Burma, they said they were fishing in Burma side.

Earlier, the BGP also seized Bangladeshi fishing boats while fishing in Bangladesh territorial waters.

However, on November 4, the relatives of the fishermen complained to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) regarding the matter. The fishermen have been detained in the BGP custody, said a relative of Hamid.

BGB officer Abu Rasel Siddik of Teknaf Battalion No. 2 said that the fishermen will be brought to Bangladesh from Burma soon, one of the fishermen said.
