Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Rohingya youth was arrested and detained in Marrawaddy army camp custody on May 26, Hakim, a villager from Maungdaw said. The detainee has been identified as— Abdul Majid (17), son of Rohim Ullah, hailed from Khonzabill village under the Aley Than Kyaw village tract of Maungdaw Township, he added.
On that day, at around 12 midnights, a group of army personnel from Marrawaddy army camp went to his house and arrested him over the allegation that he has been using Bangladeshi mobile phone, Mohin, a villager said.
After arrest, he was severally tortured on the spot and then he was brought to their army camp, he more added.
On information, the village Admin officer Sayed Alam of Khonzabill and some others village elders went to army camp to talk the officer about the arrestee May 27, but the officer of army demanded Kyat two million for his release and to close the case. The army officer also didn’t pay attention on their words, said an aide of army.
So far, he has been detained and was tortured in the army custody, the aide further said.
He was arrested with the suspicion of using Bangladeshi mobile phone, the army didn’t get any evidence of using Bangladesh mobile phone, an elder from the locality said on condition anonymity.
