Village Admin officer collects money from the villagers in Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Rakhine village Admin officer of Udaung U Tin Maung collected money from Rohingya villagers after inviting them for a dinner on May 6, Mohin from Maungdaw said.
The village Admin officer called with invitation letters to all Udaung villagers to participate at the dinner that was held by him after slaughtering three cows. It has 900 houses, he further said.

The village Admin officer told every villager to attend in the dinner, if anyone did not participate in the dinner, he/she will be met with problem while distributing invitation letters among the villagers, according to villagers.

Mostly poor villagers attended to the dinner with gifts and money because of fear of arrest and harassment by the Admin officer, villagers more added.

A village elder said, on condition of anonymity, it is a plan of the village Admin Officer U Tin Maung to collect money from Rohingya villagers with the help of Border Guard Police of Burma.

Villagers who went to dinner provided money at least Kyat 50,000 to 100,000 per head, where he could get a huge money from the villagers, the elder more added.

“This is a kind of lucrative business” said Anwer, a trader from the village.
