No action against the Rakhine youths

Maungdaw, Arakan State: A group of Rakhine youths of Sommona village frequently harasses and disturbs to Rohingya firewood collectors in Maungdaw south. But BGP does not take any action against them, Mohin from Maungdaw said.On March 19, a group of Rakhine youths went to the forest and caught over 25 Rohingya firewood collectors and tortured them while collecting firewood. Rohingya villagers took permission from the Forest Department and Border Guard Police (BGP) to go forest to collect firewood, he more added.
Some victims are identified as— Md. Alam (18), son of Mohamad Salam, Mahadullah (20), son of Kafayat Ullah and Monu (22), son of Masan, hailed from Khonzabill village of Aley Than Kyaw village tract under Maungdaw Township.
The Rakhine youths who harassed and beat the Rohingya firewood collectors, were wearing the uniforms of BGP and seized all the knives from the firewood collectors, according to a firewood collector.
Similarly, the Rakhine youths also caught another 20 firewood collectors from the forest on March 17, he more added.
However, all the Rohingya firewood collectors were released after making harassment, beating and seizing knives, according to villagers.
Some of firewood collectors went to the new BGP camp under the Aley Than Kyaw police camp and complained regarding the matter, but BGP took no action against the culprits, the villagers more added.
