Bangladesh Police arrest AA member

A member of Burmese rebel group “Arakan Army (AA)” was arrested by Ragamati Kutwali police on March 19, at around 8:00 pm, according to Rangamati  Kutwali police station officer Mohamed Rashid.
On being tipped off, a team of police personnel from Rangamati Kutwali police station conducted an operation and arrested U Aung Than, a member of Arakan Army while having dinner in the Rupa hotel (Resturant), officials said.

The arrestee U Aung Than (36), who is a senior member of Arakan Army (AA) led by Dr. Khin Maung.  He worked in Narinjara Media for a long time in Bangladesh, said a close friend of arrestee from Cox’s Bazar.

Police arrested Aung Than for linking with Burmese rebel group “Arakan Army (AA)” and helping its commander Rannin Soe (45) who was arrested in Bangladesh on October 14, 2015 and charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act for the attack by Arakan Army forces on a Bangladeshi border patrol, which left one guard injured, the police officer Mohamed Rashed more said.

Police found some important documents such as— photos of Arakan Army, computer storage device- pen drive and some letters of Rannie Soe, the police officer more added.

Aung Than confessed to his involvement with Arakan Army since long as a senior member when police interrogation in police station, said police supper Mohamed Shahid Ullah.

However, he was produced in court on March 20, police filed case against him in the connection of Arakan Army and the police sought 10 days remand from the court, which granted, the police supper more added.
