Army extort money for motorcycle in Maungdaw

A group of army personnel from light infantry battalion (LIB) 233 extorted kyat 120,000 from a Rohingya motorcyclist while riding Maungdaw -Taungbro highway on March 1, said Halim, human rights watch dog from Maungdaw.
Jangir Ahmed (22), son of Hussin, hailed from Nari bill ( Kyauk Pyin Seik), Maungdaw north was going to Powet Chaung (Faul Khali) by motorcycle riding on Maungdaw- Taungbro highway on March 1, at around 8:00am, Halim more added.

On the way, he was halted by army patrolling group with van, but Jangir ran way leaving his motorcycle on the road for fear of torture and arrest, Amin, an elder from Maungdaw north.

The army personnel were angry for overtaking their van. In Maungdaw, the security force, army are always torturing, arresting and extorting money from Rohingya community while the force met any Rohingya on their way. So, most of the Rohingyas are trying not to face any forces on the way when travelling, Rafique, an ex-  village admin officer from Maungdaw.

However, later, Jangir was brought again in front of the army by village Admin officer of his village. Having asked some questions from the youth, the motorcycle was returned to him, after extorting Kyat 120,000. But, he was not beaten up, said  Rafique
