BGB arrests BGP member at Bangladesh-Burma border

Naikonchari, Bangladesh: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a member of BGP (Burma Border Guard Police) January 5 while entering into the Bangladesh illegally, Hussain Juhar, a local from Naikonchari said.
According to BGB officials, a member of BGP was arrested by a team of BGB after infiltrating the Bangladesh side through the Asartali point, pillar No. 45 on January 5 at about 7 am.

The arrestee was identified as Hla Tun Hla (20), from Aung Zuu BGP camp. His personal No. is 253 411 and native place is Taung Bazar, Buthidaung Township.

On January 5, 11 members of BGP, including 9-Bama, one Rakhine and one Chakma (Dine Net) from Aung Zuu camp led by Lieutenant Myint Kin Tha went to the border for patrol, according to an BGB aide.

While giving patrol, the officer Myint Kin Tha rebuked and also beat Hla Tun Hla  which made him very angry. After returning to the camp, he was sentry duty at about 3:00 am, and then he shot to his officer and ran away from the camp with his gun along with two mobiles. However, he left his gun on the way to border and crossed the Burma-Bangladesh border. Early in the morning, he was arrested by BGB nearby pillar No.45, the aide more added.

After arrest, the BGP member was brought to the headquarters of Cox’s Bazar BGB Sector No.17 for further investigations, a BGB member said.

When BGP asked to BGB members in the flag meeting to return the arrestee of BGP on January 5 afternoon, BGB didn’t return, said an aide of BGP over telephone on condition of anonymity.

However, the arrestee was handed over to BGP after holding a flag meeting on January 6 by BGB and BGP, Lt Col Shofiul  Azam Pervez  of Battalion No.50 of Ramu said .
