Extension of new BGP camp in Maungdaw south

Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Myanmar Border Guard police (BGP) camp has been extended in Maundaw south on November 26, Mohin, a well-wisher said from Maungdaw. “It has been establishing since 2014 and completed on November 26, 2015 and brought nearly 100 BGP personnel including army from Kawarbill Headquarters. The new camp is situated between Khonzabill and Udaung villages and also closed to a mountain”

In 2014, the quasi-civilian government seized more than 200 acres of arable lands from the Rohingya villagers of Khonzabill and Udaung. The lands were forcibly seized and built up camp and other purposes, villagers said.

More than 1,000 army and BGP forces will be brought to the camp within one month, said an aide of police from Aley Than Kyaw.

A village elder said on condition of anonymity, “We are very afraid that harassments will be increased in future.” He also said that army and BGP forces will enter the villages and extort money from villagers without any fault and make multiple discriminations against the villagers.
