Maungdaw authority – U Khin Maung Lwin, the District Administration Officer and U Hla Myint, the Township administration officer- had denied UNHCR officers to meet Rohingya elders from Maungdaw on July 11 , said Halim, a Human Rights Watchdog from Maungdaw.
Three high level officers from UNHCR visited Maungdaw who interest to meet Maungdaw Rohingya community elders openly, but Maungdaw authority denied it, Halim said.
But, later, the authority again proposed to UNHCR officers to meet Rohingya who were provided by Maungdaw authority. If the UNHCR agree with the proposal of Maungdaw authority, will arrange to meet Rohingya at Deawa Nadi Hall today at 6:00 pm and again Rakhine community elders also meet with together, said an officer who denied to be named from Maungdaw.
The Maungdaw authority selected Rohingya are:- Master Jangir, Mujeb Ullah, Dr. Kamal, Yasin (Gold), Advocate Arman Ullah and etc…. who are closed to authority and collaborators of authority. Some are baffled and dumbed – no right to speak as per ordered of authority, said the officer.
Maungdaw authority are trying to control all for Rohingya and need to play as per their will. If the authority are willing solve the problem, why the authority not open the space to all to talk open. Why controlling the space and UNHCR must careful and understand to authority selected the Rohingya elders who are these Rohingya and what they will say.
They are not representative to all Rohingya from Maungdaw. The local people are believed them, said Islam, a businessman from Maungdaw.
UNHCR must play carefully as Rohingya are keep in an open cage and Rohingya want their basic Human Rights which UNHCR play on it, Islam more added.
