Two Rohingya youths arrested in Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Two Rohingya youths were arrested by BGP over the allegation that they had been using Bangladeshi mobile phones on June 16, a local from Aley Than Kyaw village said on condition of anonymity.
“The arrested were identified as— Shomsul Alam (22), son of Hossaind Ahamed, hailed from Khonza Bill village and Shamsu (20), and hailed from Udaung village, under the Maungdaw Township.”

On that day, at about 10:30 pm, a team of Border Guard Police (BGP) of Burma from Shilkhali BGP out-post camp went to Khonza Bill village and arrested them while gossiping in a house, said an aide of police.

After arrest, they were severely beaten up on the spot and then alleged by BGP that they used Bangladeshi mobile phones.

Hearing the hue and cry, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued from the hand of the police after giving Kyat 800,000.  But, police warned the victims not to expose the matter to the public, said a relative of a victim on condition of anonymity.

A businessman from Maungdaw south said that harassments against Rohingyas have not been stopped and harassments are being increased day by day.

It is a daily occurrence in Arakan against the Rohingya community. But, world community ignores it.
