Police destroy huge Yaba tablets at border

Teknaf, Bangladesh: The police department of Cox’s Bazar police Line destroyed huge Yaba tablets and drugs worth Taka 300 million on April 9, which were seized by the concerned authorities in last three months, according to police source.

“The smuggling drugs were seized from different parts of Bangladesh-Burma border after being conducted separates operations by the concerned authorities of Bangladesh.”

Mostly Yaba tablets and drugs are being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma by smugglers via sea route, according to official.

On April 6, a team of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) seized 230,000 Yaba tablets from the area of Alikhali under the Teknaf union, after being conducted operation, at about 8:30 pm, which were being smuggled from Burma, said Lt Col Abu Jar Al Jahid, commanding officer of BGB battalion No.42 of Teknaf.

Later, the BGB found another contraband tablets worth about Tk 70 million in two bags at border area while conducting operation led by company Commander of Leda BGB camp, he added, but, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the Yaba peddlers fled from the scene leaving the Yaba on the spot.

In separate drives, on April 9, early morning, a team from BGB-42 Battalion led by Commander Abu Jar Al Jahid seized over 161,000 Yaba tablets, which worth around Tk 48.7 million and detained 11 people, including three Burmese citizens, in Teknaf upazila, another BGB team, led by Maj Abu Russel Siddique, deputy commander raided the house of alleged Yaba trader Enamul Haque at Nasirpara area where the BGB seized over 30,000 Yaba tablets and agroupof BGB members raided Shilbonia Para in Teknaf municipality acting on a tip-off and detained two persons along with 5,077 Yaba tablets in the same day, according to BGB information.
Department of Narcotic Control (DNC) arrested Mohammad Saddam, 27, of Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar with 11,000 pieces of yaba from Moijjartek area of Chittagong on April 5.

Detectives Branch detained two drug dealers – Md Ayub and Md Hossain and seized more than 100,000 pieces of yaba from their possession in the capital’s Demra area, said Detective Branch of Police Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam at press briefing o March 23.

A RAB team recovered 32,000 pieces of yaba tablets from Sayed Akbar Hossain, 40, and Nurul Afsar, 37 in Panchlaish area of Chittagong on March 6, according to Major Jahangir Alam, second in-command of RAB 7.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 80,000 pieces of Yaba tablet from the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on March 17, morning, according to Lieutenant Colonel Abu Jar Al Zahid, Commanding Officer of BGB-42.

Two Rakhine women – Soe Yu and Mimi – have been arrested with around 7000 yaba tablets by Bangladesh Border Guards on March 21, near Chowdhury para, according BGB source.

Bangladesh Navy seized 1500,000 pieces of Yaba tablet worth Tk830 millions from a boat in the outer anchorage of the port city – Chittagong- early February 5.

Bangladesh authorities—BGB, naval forces and police and other authorities concerned have been trying to curb the smuggling of narcotics’ flowing to Bangladesh from Burma but they are unable to control  it, as Burmese authorities do not corporate with Bangladesh authorities, said a local trader from Teknaf preferring not to be named.
