Teknaf, Bangladesh: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from Whykong check-post arrested a Burmese drug smuggler along with 1645 Yaba tablets on February 28, Jamal, a local businessman from Teknaf town said.
On being tipped off, BGB members of Whykong check-post searched the bodies of passengers in a special bus which ran to Cox’s Bazar from Teknaf, and got 1645 pieces of Yaba tablets from Munaf (47), son of Abdul Hakim, hailed from Shwezarr village, Maungdaw, according to official.
Zawaz Meah, a BGB officer from Whykong BGB check post said that Munaf was arrested along with Yaba tablets after checking his body. He was handed over to Teknaf police station for further interrogation.
However, police has filed two cases against him in Teknaf police station with the connection of smuggling Yaba, a police officer said.
According to local traders, thousands of Yaba tablets have been smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma through drug smugglers who live along the Burma-Bangladesh border. The concerned authorities of Bangladesh arrested many smugglers and sent to jails and the authorities have been also trying to stop smuggling Yaba tablets, but failed.
