Maungdaw, Araakan state: A regional level flag meeting was held between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Burma Border Guard Police (BGP) at Maungdaw on October 30, according to BGP official.
“From Bangladesh side, Chittagong BGB regional Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Habibul Karim NDC, PSC led 27-BGB members, including Bandarban Sector Commander Col SM Oliur Rahman, BGB headquarters’ Sector Commander Selim Mazmood Sowdhury BP, Cox’s Bazar Sector Commander Col Kondaker Farid Hassan, 31-BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Azizul Islam, 17-BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Khondaker Saiful Islam, 50-BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Toymor Salauddin, 42-BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohamed Abuzar-al- Zahid, Lt Col Tohidul Islam, Lt Col Saiful Azam Parbez, Lt Col Lotfar Karim, Major Mahbub Saber and Aminul Islam.”
From Burma side, the BGP Director of Maungdaw District Police Brigadier General Tin Ko Ko led a 18-BGP member including Lt Col Aung Min Htwe, Lt Col Maung Win Nay, Lt Col Thit Han and Lt Col Khin Maung Hla, said a close aide of BGP of Maungdaw Township.
The BGB (Bangladesh) team went to Maungdaw immigration exit and entry No. 1 gate by a speed boat at about 8:00 am, according to BGB source.
The BGB Chittagong regional Commander-Brigadier General Habibul Korim told the reporters in a brief press release that— in the meeting they discussed to stop Yaba tablets and other narcotic smuggling to Bangladesh, BGP’s arbitrary firing on border areas, firing to BGB petrol party by Burmese smugglers, illegal entry of Burmese nations to Bangladesh, to communicate with English language between two countries, to hold friendly spots between two countries, to hold cultural function , to hold regular flag meeting and to make friendly environment with meeting face to face was also proposed, according to a local Bangla Newspaper.
From Burma side, the BGP Director General Brigadier General Tin Ko Ko raised that— according to the two countries’ border law, to help each other; illegal entry; to establish more new border points for controlling smuggling; to stop the activities of RSO (Rohingya Solidarity Organization), a rebellion group of Burma; to take initiative against the activities of Islamic group-Al-Quida members that they will not able their activities across the Burma-Bangladesh border; to maintain peace and stability continuously between two countries, the BGP director proposed, according to BGB sources.
The BGP director General also said that a fruitful discussion was made with “our counterparts. If there is any problem occurred regarding the border, it will be solved after discussion between two countries.”
Besides, region level meeting will be held after six months, Sector level meeting will be held after 3 months and Battalion level meeting will be held after one month, the BGP director more added.
After meeting, they (BGB) returned home at around 5:45 pm.
