More Burmese drugs seize in Bangladesh

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Bangladesh Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 90,000 sex-stimulating tablets from a boat on September 28, at around 7:00 pm near Sabrang area, under Teknaf police station of Naf River – the border river between Burma and Bangladesh, said Lt Col Abu Zar Al Zahid, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-42.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of the border guards conducted a drive in the Naf River and seized the boat, but the smugglers fled the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Lt.Col. Abu Zar said.

Earlier in the morning of September 28, BGB members also seized 10,000 Yaba tablets from Mandalpara under Sabrang union, while a team of the border force launched a drive in the area around 7:00 am, the officer further said.

More Burmese drugs and Yaba tablets have been entering from Burma to Bangladesh through water way and BGB seized more Yaba tablets in separate drives at Teknaf on September 28 while being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma, Mohammed Ali, a local trader from Teknaf said.

The concerned authorities of Bangladesh have been trying to stop smuggling Yaba tablets and drugs, but they are unable to prevent smuggling drugs, said a police officer who denied to be named.

In previous times, the authorities arrested many peddlers and smugglers with thousands of Yaba tablets from the Bangladesh border areas and sent to jail, the officer added.
