Twenty eight cattle abducted in Maungdaw south

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Twenty eight cattle of Rohingya were abducted by a group of Natala villages yesterday, Kholil, a local elder from Aley Than Kyaw said.“Some owners were identified as— Jaker (30), Awlhiar (60), Jonu (45), and Khobir Ahamed (30). They all hailed from Khonzabill village of Aley Than Kyaw village tract under the Maungdaw Township.”

The cattle were abducted by a group of Natala villagers of Marrawaddy village (Saung Paingnyar) while grazing in the fields of Rohingya community. But the Natala villagers complained that the cattle were grazing in the fields of Rakhine community. However, they (Natala villagers) brought all the cattle to their village.

On information, the owners of the cattle and village admin officer went to Marrawaddy village to release the cows yesterday evening. But, the Rakhine villagers demanded huge money for release of the cattle, said one of the owners on condition of anonymity.

The Natala villagers said to the Rohingya villagers that there are no lands of Rohingyas in Arakan State; all lands belong to Rakhine community.

The Natala villagers also added that all the Rohingyas are Bengali Kalar, but they   (Rohingyas) live in Arakan State temporally.

However, at last, all the cattle were released after paying Kyat 2, 50,000 to them, said another owner.

A group of Natala villagers including Rakhine villagers increase harassments day by day and want to create conflict again Rohingya community in Maungdaw District, said an ex-village admin officer on condition of anonymity.
