Teknaf, Bangladesh: A team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized vermicelli along with a rowboat on July 16 while being smuggled to Burma from Bangladesh, Jafar, a local shopkeeper from border town Teknaf said. On being tipped off, a team of BGB from Nilla out-post went to the entry point of Nawyamura Para and seized more than 350 kgs of vermicelli on said day, at about 9:00 pm after being conducted operation, according to BGB source.
During the raided, nobody was arrested by BGB. The operation was led by Company Commander Zawz Meah of Nilla BGB out-post under the Teknaf Battalion No. 42, BGB source further said.
Besides, seven Rohingya were arrested from the Naff River by said team of BGB while crossing Burma-Bangladesh border the same day. Later, they were pushed back again to Burma, the BGB source said.
According to locals, a group of smugglers have been smuggling different items to Burma from Bangladesh since the holy Ramadan month started. They smuggled edible oil, sugar, vermicelli and etc to Burma
From Burma side, some smugglers carry Yaba tablets to Bangladesh for their benefit for the next coming Eid-festival. Now, Yaba smuggling is being increased again along the Burma-Bangladesh border areas, locals more added.
The concerned authorities have been given tight security to prevent Yaba smuggling along the Bangladesh-Burma border, but failed. More Yaba tablets are being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma daily, said an aide of BGB.
However, more than 33,000 Yaba tablets were seized within three days in different places after being conducted operation by police and BGB, the aide more added.
