Maungdaw, Arakan State: A group of Rakhines of Maungdaw south extorted money from Rohingya villagers over the allegation that the cattle of them crossed the new road, Hussain Ahamed from Maundaw said.Mostly, cattle of Rohingyas have to go to forest for grazing after crossing the new road, which was built for official use as expressway, from Maungdaw three miles junction (Maungdaw-Buthidaung highway) to Ahngumaw of Rathedaung Township.
On July 15, a cow of a Rohingya villager crossed the new road for grazing while a group of Rakhines of Udaung Natala village was sitting behind the road. So, the Rakhine villagers caught the cow and brought to their village, according to an eyewitness of the event.
On information, the cow owner Abdu Rahim (20), son of Noor Mohamed, hailed from Khonza Bill village of Aley Than Kyaw village tract under the Maungdaw Township went to the Rakhine Natala village to take his cow in the evening on that day.
But, the owner Rahim was alleged that his cow destroyed some of vegetables they had grown, said a relative of the victim.
However, the owner has paid Kyat 15,000 to release the cow, the relative more added.
A farmer told the Kaladanpress, on condition of anonymity, “Our cattle have to go to the forest for grazing after crossing the aforesaid new road because here is no grazing field accepts the forest.”
