60,000 Yaba pills seized in Bangladesh

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from Teknaf seized 30,000 Yaba pills in an operation on June 20, according to BDR official.

Acting on a tip-off, BGB personnel tried to nab a group of Yaba traffickers in Jaliapara under Teknaf police station, the BGB official said.

However, sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang of about seven traffickers attacked them prompting the BGB officials to open fire. But, none were hurt or arrested, the BGB sources said.

The BGB personnel recovered 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.

The Yaba tablets were smuggled into the country from Burma, the official said.

The Yaba traffickers have a group – Businessmen, politicians, government officers- to operate the trafficking of Yaba in Bangladesh from Burma, said Hashim, an elder from Teknaf.

But, the security forces- BGB, Coast guard and RAB- are trying to stop the drug trafficking in the border areas. The security forces killed some traffickers since last month and most of the traffickers are hiding for fear of killing, Hashim more said.

Similarly, Detective Branch of police (DB) seized 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets in Fisherighatarea of Chittagong on June 20, said DB official report.

DB police arrested two people with 30,000 Yaba tablets worth about Taka 10 million in this connection.

The detainees are Akter Hossain, 42, and Md Azam, 50.

On a tip-off, a DB team conducted a drive at M/S Azam Mechanics in Fisherighat area at around 6:30am and detained the two with the Yaba tablets, said local sources.
