Maungdaw authority again imposes emergency Act 144

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Maungdaw Township administration office again imposed emergency Act 144 in Maungdaw for two month on June 8, according to Halim, A Human Rights Watch from Maungdaw.

The authority imposed the emergency act 144 from 11:00pm to 4:00am which announced in Maungdaw openly, Halim said.

This time, the security force – Hluntin, police and army – were patrolling in the town and keeping restriction to the people not outside within the time frame, said Mohamed Younous, a student from Maungdaw.

“Within the time frame nobody allow to go outside from their home, same before with understanding, will face action against him,” said a security officer from Maungdaw who declined his named.

“All the security forces are ordered to keep alert for recent tension of border and didn’t able to permit Rakhine community as before with understanding to go outside in the restricted period.”

But, Halim said the security forces will give permission the Rakhine to round the town as usual before. Most of security forces are Rakhine and they want to harass the Rohingya community. This the plan to make a narrow spaces for Rohingya for moving in their daily lives.
