Rakhines attack a Rohingya motor-cycle rider

Maungdaw, Arakan State: A group of Rakhines of Sommona Rakhine village attacked a Rohingya motor-cycle rider yesterday at about 3:00 pm while he was on the way to  home from Maundaw town, said Nazir from the local. The victim was identified as Mohammed Noor (25), son of Yousuf, hailed from Myint Hlut village under the Maungdaw Township.

According to villagers, Noor went to Maungdaw market from Myint Hlut village yesterday morning with motor-cycle for his personal matter.

On the way to home, a group of Rakhine youths attempted to attack him but they were unable to deprive him as some Rohingya villagers rushed on the spot while seeing the situation.

According to victim’s statement, there were eight Rakhine youths in the group; they were hiding under a small tree in the road side of Maundaw-Aley Than Kyaw high way.

“If villagers are not able to reach on time at the spot, Rakhine youths will loot my essential goods,” the victim’s statement more added.

According to sources, some Rakhines of Sommona village frequently harassing and looting the Rohingya community on the way to and forests.
