Huge Yaba tablets seized at Burma-Bangladesh border

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized huge contraband Yaba tablets from Burma-Bangladesh border area early yesterday which were being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma, Hossain, a local from Teknaf Town said. “They (Bangladesh Coast Guard) seized at around 35,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets, worth Taka 17.5 million from an area of Jalia Para (village) of Teknaf police station after being conducted operation.”

Being informed, a team of Coast Guard Teknaf conducted the drive in the area around 1:30 am and recovered the sex-stimulating tablets left unattended, sources at the Coast Guard headquarters said.

However, there was no arrest in this connection as drug peddlers fled the scene earlier sensing the law enforcers’ presence.

Besides, Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard recovered 23,310 Yaba tablets worth about Tk 11.8 million from Shahparir Dip in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on February 15, at night while it was being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma.

The law enforcers also seized a wooden boat used for carrying the contraband tablets. Members of Coast Guard Shahpari Dip out-post under East Zone Chittagong conducted a drive at Jalia Para, according to Bangladesh Coast Guard sources.

According to different sources, thousands of Yaba tablets are being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma by peddlers but the concerned authorities of Bangladesh are unable to stop smuggling Yaba tablets.
