Burma hands over 75 Bangladeshis to Bangladesh

Maungdaw, Arakan State:  Burma border security force (Nasaka) handed over 75 Bangladeshi nationals to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during a flag meeting held between the two countries –Burma and Bangladesh- at Maungdaw, July 11, said a Nasaka agent from Maungdaw.

The Bangladeshi were arrested and sent to jail on charge of illegal entry by Nasaka while going to Malaysia by boat from Burma’s territorial waters, BGB sources said.

The Burmese court sentenced the Bangladeshi to jail on April, 2012 and released from jail after 18 month, said Saiful, a Bangladeshi prisoner.

The flag meeting was held at Maungdaw, where Lt Col Zahid Hasan, Commander of 42- BGB Battalion led the 8 members of Bangladesh side while 11 members was led by deputy Nasaka  Director U Soe Naing from Burma side, according to Lt Col Zahid Hassan.

The two hour long meeting started around 11:00 am where various issues, including intrusion and drugs smuggling were discussed.
