8 Rohingya women arrested in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: Police personnel of Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station arrested and detained eight Rohingya women on March 19, 2013, Hossain from Cox’s Bazar town said. “Police arrested the Rohingya females from the Cox’s bus terminal on Tuesday night at about 11.30 pm while they were trying to go to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar.”

The arrestees were identified as Rokeya Begum (16), Setara Begum (18), Nurjahan Begum (40), Kismot Ara (18), Hasina Akter (14), Rushni (14) Ashira (20), and Rashida Begum (20). They all belong to Arakan State, Burma.

Officer-in-charge (OC) M Jashim Uddin of Cox’s Bazar Model Police station said acting on a tip-off, a team of police arrested the said Rohingya women from the bus terminal with suspect as the females entry in the country illegally.

The officer also said, “We haven’t found any travel documents from them to enter Bangladesh from Arakan, Burma.

According to sources, there were three males in the group, but they managed to escape sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

Regarding the statement of the arrestees, they are citizens of Arakan State, Burma and had come to the bus terminal to go to Dhaka during the police interrogation, according to Officer-in-charge (OC).
