More 31-Rohingya pushed back to Burma

Teknaf, Bangladesh: More 31-Rohingya men were pushed back to Burma by BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) yesterday at around 4:00pm, according to BGB official.
“They were arrested by BGB while penetrating to Bangladesh from different points from early morning to 10:00 am yesterday with small boats.”

Six persons from Shapuri Dip of Teknaf, nine Rohingyas were from Retmark Khlai village and while 16 other people were from Whaikhong check-post were arrested by BGB.

However, yesterday, at around 4:00 pm, all the 31 arrested Rohingyas were sent back to Burma from Dum Dum Meah border point after giving them some supporting, a BGB officer said.

Since June this year, Rohingya people have been entering Bangladesh because of food crisis harassment by security force in Arakan state, Burma, said a local villager who denied to be named.

A Rohingya youth from Maungdaw Town said, “Buying time to solve the problem between Rakhine and Rohingya, President Thein is killing Rohingya community with starvation.”

In the letter, Thein Sein said his government would address contentious issues “ranging from resettlement of displaced populations to granting of citizenship,” but he gave no timeline and stopped short of fully committing to naturalize them.
