Cox’s Bazar , Bangladesh : A high level officer meeting was held between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Burma border security force (Nasaka) in Cox’s Bazar, discussing current situation and to encourage for joint operation along the Burma-Bangladesh border on June 2, said an aide close to BGB from Cox’s Bazar on condition of anonymity.
“The meeting was held at Cox’s Bazar Rest House and discussed various issues and exchanging the idea for joint operation on current situation.”
“The Burmese border force proposed to stop human trafficking to Malaysia, the drug smuggling with joint operation where the two border force agree to keep the border security tightly.”
Golam Faruk Kamara Nure Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Chittagong Sector Commander, Sector-colonel led 8-member delegation, while Burma’s 10-member delegation was led by the Nasaka Director Lt. Col. Aung Gyi, official from Bangladesh said.
According to sources, they discussed to stop smuggling of Yaba (mathematic) tablets, drugs and Rohingya boatpeople who go to Malaysia by risky boat so far.
They also agreed to be held another meeting on June 22 to 26 at Dhaka.
Earlier on May 27, a Company Commander level flag meeting was held between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Burma border security force (Nasaka) at Bangladesh-Burma border. They discussed various border issues and exchanging on current situation.
Though, the Bangladesh authorities have been trying to stop smuggling of Yaba tablets, drug and Rohingya boatpeople but in vain. So, they want to work jointly regarding the matter, BGB official said.
